The  pigeon, native to the Ghardaia region, is renowned for its striking beauty and distinctive movement.


📍 Origin and Origin

Origin: The working-class neighborhoods of Ghardaia (Algeria).


Main areas of distribution: Mermad, Thniet El Hadj, Messaoud, Ben Smara, and Sidi Abaz.


Neighboring municipalities: Metlili Chaamba, Daya Ben Dahoua, and Berriane.


Breeders: The local Arab population, with their great passion for breeding and developing this breed.


⏳ History and Spread

Beginning: This breed first appeared and its characteristics became prominent before the year 2000.


Expansion: 2015 witnessed a significant expansion of this pigeon beyond the borders of the region, reaching neighboring provinces such as Laghouat, Ouargla, El Oued, and several other provinces in the north and south.


🔍 Physical Characteristics (Specifications)

These pigeons are distinguished by their harmonious appearance, combining several aesthetic qualities:


Size: Medium-sized with a slender (relatively long) build.


Legs: A feathered "trousers" cover the legs.


Head: There is a variety of head shapes; some have a crest (a tuft of feathers), while others have a rosette (a distinctive circular feather pattern).


Colors: They are not limited to one color; all the colors commonly found in pigeons are available.


⚡ Behavior and Distinction (Flapping)

The most distinctive feature of these pigeons is their unique flying style and jumping technique. They are known for their "flapping wings," a characteristic highly sought after by enthusiasts, which adds dynamism and beauty to their flight.


Note: Documenting and protecting these local breeds is part of preserving the region's biological and cultural diversity, especially since they originated and developed thanks to the expertise of local breeders in Ghardaia.
